Privacy Policy
This policy explains what personal data pearentup collects, why we collect it, and how we use and protect it. We are committed to handling your data responsibly and in accordance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.
1. Who is responsible for your data
pearentup is operated by its founders, private individuals based in England. We are the data controller for personal data collected through this service. You can contact us at hello@pearentup.com.
2. What data we collect and why
When you register
- Email address — to create and secure your account and to contact you about the service.
- First name and last name initial — to identify you within the community. Your last name is never shown in full.
- Password — stored securely in encrypted form. We never see your password in plain text.
When you complete your profile (optional)
- Location (region only), pronouns, age range, parenting stage, interests, bio, and social media handles — to help you connect with others in the community. You choose what to share.
When you use the community
- Posts, replies, and reactions — content you create is stored and displayed to other members.
- Saved posts — stored privately and visible only to you.
- Reports — if you report content we store the report to help us moderate the community.
Automatically collected data
- Basic usage and technical data (such as browser type and IP address) may be collected by our hosting and infrastructure providers (Vercel and Supabase) for security and performance purposes. We do not use this data to profile or track you.
3. Our legal basis for processing your data
- Contract — processing your account data is necessary to provide the service you signed up for.
- Legitimate interests — we process usage data to keep the platform secure and to improve it.
- Consent — where we ask for optional profile information, we rely on your consent. You can update or remove this at any time.
4. How we store and protect your data
Your data is stored securely using Supabase, a cloud database provider. All data is encrypted in transit using HTTPS. Access to the database is restricted and protected by row-level security, meaning each member can only access their own private data. We do not store payment card details — any future payments will be handled by Stripe, a certified payment processor.
5. Who we share your data with
We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with the following third-party service providers who help us operate pearentup:
- Supabase — database and authentication (US-based, with appropriate data transfer safeguards).
- Vercel — website hosting (US-based, with appropriate data transfer safeguards).
- Zoho — email and contact forms.
We may also disclose data if required to do so by law or to protect the safety of our members.
6. Data about children
pearentup is for adults (18+) only. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. Members may refer to their children in posts as part of normal community discussion — we ask members not to share identifying information about their children. If you believe a child has created an account please contact us at hello@pearentup.com and we will remove it promptly.
7. How long we keep your data
We keep your account data for as long as your account is active. If you ask us to delete your account we will delete your personal profile data within 30 days. Posts and replies you have made may remain in the community in anonymised form unless you delete them before closing your account.
8. Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate data (you can do this yourself via Edit profile).
- Delete your data (right to erasure).
- Restrict or object to certain processing.
- Data portability — receive a copy of your data in a portable format.
- Withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent.
To exercise any of these rights please email us at hello@pearentup.com. We will respond within 30 days. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
9. Cookies
pearentup uses only essential cookies and browser storage (such as localStorage) necessary to keep you logged in and remember your preferences. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you by posting a notice on the platform. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last updated.
